Dr. Ali Tootoonchi

Dr. Tootoonchi was born in the city of Shiraz (known for its ancient poetry and vineyards), Iran. At a young age he migrated to Argentina and later to Canada with his family. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Science, specializing in Kinesiology from Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. While completing his undergraduate program in Canada, he suffered from 2 automobile accidents. Also, as a Kick-Boxing and martial arts enthusiast, he suffered from multiple minor injuries.

The trauma from the car crashes and sports injuries left him with chronic neck, upper back and shoulder pain. His family physician’s recommendation led him to visit with a local chiropractor in North Vancouver, B.C. After following his chiropractor’s recommendations, his sufferings from the injuries were resolved. This was the start of his introduction to chiropractic. Upon completion of his Bachelors Degree, he moved to San Jose, CA to complete his Doctorate Degree in Chiropractic at Palmer College of Chiropractic-West. During his last year of school and after his graduation, he worked for multiple clinics in the San Francisco-Bay Area. During his internship and post-ceptorship, he was able to gain ample experience by working side by side with some of the elite doctors in the industry serving professional athletes, injured workers, auto accident victims, and chronic suffering patients. At the same time, Dr. Tootoonchi furthered his education in nutrition as this was also a passion of his from his undergraduate years. He established his practice in 2006 in Cupertino, CA. Since then he has been able to serve the Santa Clara County community through his private practice, community service work, and lectures.

After a few years of practice, he noted that some of his patients are getting better but return with the similar structural problems after a few months. Others would get better but would plateau in their improvements. This led him to further his studies in order to find what the underlying cause was. After months of researching, he concluded that the underlying cause was nutrition. As an example, chiropractic case studies from about 80 years ago would show that many patients would see their chiropractors for spinal and neurological alignment once every 1-4 weeks and some even once every 1-3 months. Many of Dr. Tootoonchi’s patients would be adjusted in the morning and due to their body’s lack of nutritional integrity would need another adjustment by the same afternoon to realign their body again. The difference between patients 80 years ago and today is that they fed their bodies better as food sources were not as processed and corrupted with hormones, GMO’s, pesticides, etc.

This led Dr. Tootoonchi to implement Nutrition into his chiropractic practice in order to further support his patient’s health. His whole body approach includes implementation of Whole Food Nutrition into patient’s daily diet.  The importance of nutrition along with full chiropractic care was personally experienced by Dr. Tootoonchi as he explains:

“Another reason why I implemented whole food nutrition therapy into my chiropractic practice was because of a personal health problem. In 2003, I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis (UC). My Gastroenterologist explained to me that there is no cure for this disease. He recommended staying on medication to reduce the chances of colon cancer. He also recommended performing colonoscopies every 2-5 years, depending on the number of flair ups, to monitor for cancer. The other possible therapies he discussed with me were to administer bouts of Cortisone therapy and eventually if recurrent flair ups, surgical removal of large intestine and replacing it with a “J-Pouch”, which would have significantly diminished my quality of life.  None of the treatment options were acceptable for me, as I wanted to be active, and see my children grow into their adult years. I tried many different nutritional modalities and whole food nutrition was the answer to my health problems. It took me a few years but finally I was able to control and heal my UC. This process took many nutritional protocols and the help and support of my family.  Ultimately, I concluded ‘Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food’ (Hippokrates of Kos – the founding father of western medicine.) This life changing experience was another reason why I wanted to further help my patients and community with a complete approach of chiropractic, physical therapy, massage, kinesiology, and nutrition to achieve optimal health.”
